2020 was not kind to many industries. But despite the carnage caused by COVID-19, green energy adoption has continued to surge – breaking new records in 2020.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) released its Renewable Capacity Statistics 2021 report, which showed that the world added 261GW of green energy capacity. This is a rise of over 50 per cent on 2019 and came despite the severe impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.
In many ways, the environment has been the big winner in the past year. Emissions from cars and other forms of transport – including ships and planes, have seen a dramatic decline. Of course, those emissions will return as economies recover. But green energy is here to stay. It’s cheap. It’s reliable. It’s the future!
